Dr. Eustáquio Afonso Araújo

     

Professor Eustaquio Afonso Araujo recieved his DDS degree from the Federal University of Mina Gerais, in Belo Horisonte, Brazil, in the yaer of 1969. In 1982, he received his certificate in Orthodontics and Masters in Dental Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh, PA.

 His professional life has always been devoted to the orthodontic clinic, education and research. As he returned to Brazil in 1981, he initiated his academic research career as an Assistant Professor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Mina Gerais – PUCMinas- a traditional and highly recognized institution in the country.

He soon became involved with administrative duties as well and was made Vice-Director and later Director of the Biology and Health Science Institute. He idealized and founded the Center of Graduate Dentistry and Reseach at PUCMinas – COP- which houses all the graduate programs in the dental profession. He was the first Director of that Center. Later on he became the Dean of the Dental School.
In late 2000, he became the Orthodontic Program Director at Saint Louis University but in 2003 he returned to Brazil as President of PUCMinas. In 2007 he came back to CADE, Saint Louis University Society of Orthodontics – Midwest Component, International College of Dentists, and is one of the Directors of the Brazilian Board of Orthodontics.

 

 

 

Rosemary Bray

 

 

 

Rosemary Bray spent 30 years being a team member in dental and orthodontic practices.  She truly has been there and done that!  She now lectures and consults both nationally and internationally on principles of effective teamwork, overall practice, customer service and image, communication, marketing, new patient conversions and office systems.  Her back ground as a team player gives her credibility and knowledge.  Twelve consecutive AAO’s, numerous component meetings, seminars and workshops, and now, here she is for you, our valued GAC customers and orthodontic colleagues.  Join us for a fun and informative, well-spent day!

 

 

 

Dr. Jerry Clark

Dr. Jerry Clark was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, attended the University of North Carolina for undergraduate and dental school, served in the Navy in Virginia Beach Virginia, and practiced general dentistry for two years before attending Saint Louis University where he received his Masters degree in orthodontics.  Since graduation, he has practiced orthodontics in Greensboro, North Carolina.

 

Dr. Clark also is Chairman of the Board of Bentson Clark & Copple, a firm specializing in strategic practice planning including: practice valuation, transition services, practice sales and marketing, and partner location services.  Dr. Clark is also a much sought after speaker on various topics related to orthodontics and has published numerous articles that have appeared on notable orthodontic publications.

 

Dr. Clark and his wife, Regina, have four children.  He is active in his community with his church, the dental society, Kiwanis Club, and founded the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Carolina, which to date has granted over 2,500 wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Lou Chmura

 

After earning his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, Dr. Chmura completed his DDS (1985), then his MS (1987) in orthodontics, both at the University of Michigan.  Dr. Chmura has been in private practice since 1987 and in Marshall, Michigan since 1991.  Dr. Chmura has been a member of the American Association of Orthodontists since 1984 and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics since 2003.  He participates in three national/international orthodontic study clubs and in over 100 hours of continuing education each year. 

Dr. Chmura has been actively involved in using soft tissue lasers since 2005 and has earned Standard Proficiency in both CO2 and two Diode wavelengths by the ALD as well as Associate Fellowship in Er,Cr:YSGG Lasers by the World Clinical Laser Institute. He is the first orthodontist to have completed the written and oral portions toward Advanced Laser Certification from the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) and His has written two book chapters on "Using of a Soft Tissue Laser in Orthodontics" in soon to be published textbooks.    

Dr. Chmura has presented nationally on “Uses of Soft Tissue Lasers in Orthodontics” and has held several in-office, hands-on courses in Marshall.

Dr. Chmura's laser talks not only highlight the basic science behind laser usage, but also covers other aspects of laser usage, including safety considerations, managing workflow, diagnosis and treatment planning, smile design, gingivectomies and frenectomies and when a referral may be more appropriate. Of particular interest is enhancing staff abilities to prepare the patient, parent and laser to allow a seamless integration of the laser into an orthodontic office.

 

 

 

Dr. Chudasama

Dr. Chudasama completed a MSC in Orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute in London and received diplomas from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2004. He has been an instructor at the Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics since 2005. Dr Chudasama is the recipient of the ‘Excellence in Teaching Award’ from the Southern Association of Orthodontists in 2008. Dr Chudasama has a keen interest in archwire technology and he will be presenting his research on translucent wires at both the SAO meeting in November 2008 and at the AAO meeting in Boston in 2009. He is also a Roth graduate and this presentation discusses the inter-relationship between archwire selection and clinical excellence.

 

 

Dr. Mark Coreil

 

 

 Mark N. Coreil, DDS is a Board Certified orthodontist.  He has worked with children who have craniofacial problems over the past twenty  years.  Dr. Coreil is Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthodontics at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry and is actively involved as an orthodontist on the Children’s Hospital Cleft and Craniofacial Team in New Orleans.  Dr. Coreil graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 1986 and completed his orthodontic specialty training at LSU in 1988.  Dr. Coreil completed the Roth/Williams Advanced Clinical Program in 1993.  He serves on the Council on Orthodontic Education for the American Association of Orthodontists.    Dr. Coreil has lectured both nationally and internationally for the past 20 years.

Carolyn Friedman

Carolyn Friedman is a certified orthodontic assistant and has worked in orthodontics for over 30 years, working in all areas of the practice. She is founder of Ortho Assist Library,  training program for orthodontic assistants, and is the author of the Ortho Assist Library.

Carolyn is a continuing education provider for the Florida Board of Dentistry. She is an international speaker on orthodontic assistant training and practice promotion. She has spoken at various regional, national and orthodontic meetings.

Carolyn has also written many articles for GAC’s “Orthodontic Economics, Orthodontic Products and Orthodontic Cyber journal. With all of her endeavors, she continues to work for an orthodontist, which helps her keep current with the changes in orthodontics.

 

 

 

Dr. Robert Fry

 

 Dr. Robert Fry is Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor of Orthodontics at University of the Pacific (UOP) and University of Southern California (USC). He has lectured nationally and internationally on orthodontic treatment procedures and practice management. Dr. Fry continually conducts extensive orthodontic studies, has participated in numerous alpha test projects including the first ceramic orthodontic appliance, the first Occlusal Slot Lingual orthodontic appliance, the Damon System and the Invisalign System (including an adolescent and MARA study for Invisalign.) He is involved in local, national, and international charity efforts and is a member of the AAO Foundation.

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

Dr. R. Andrew Girardot

Dr. Andrew Girardot attended dental school at the University of Southern California. After graduation, he practiced general dentistry in the Los Angeles area and taught operative dentistry at the USC School of Dentistry. He then attended orthodontic school at the USC School of Dentistry and has been in the private practice of orthodontics in Denver for over 35 years.
 
Dr. Girardot is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member of the Angle Society of Orthodontics, and a Fellow of the American college of Dentists. He is co-founder, co-director and faculty member of Advanced Education in Orthodontics (AEO-Roth/Williams USA) at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. Dr. Girardot is also on the part-time faculty at the University of Colorado, School of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics.

 

Dr. Raphael Greenfield

 

 Dr. Greenfield graduated with honors from Howard University College of Dentistry in 1971. After receiving his Master of Science in Orthodontics from Boston University in 1973, he continued as a Clinical Instructor until 1976. Dr. Greenfield became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1984 and was invited to exhibit his board cases at the A.A.O. meeting that same year.

Dr. Greenfield has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally, on his 98.5% nonextraction treatment philosophy entitled; “Coordinated Arch Development®.” He was also invited to present his philosophy at the 1996, 2003, 2004 and 2005 scientific sessions of the American Association of Orthodontics.

Dr. Greenfield was asked to defend his nonextraction approach at the 1992 and 2002 College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics annual sessions, the 1993 Southern Association of Orthodontists’ annual session, the 1998 Northeastern Society of Orthodontists’ annual meeting, the 1999 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry annual session and the 2001 Japanese Orthodontic Society Annual session.

His article in the August 1993 Journal of Clinical Orthodontics on “Simultaneous Torquing and Intrusion” aroused great interest in his methods of intruding and retracting maxillary incisors. March 1995, and September 2005 articles in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics described his unique “Fixed Piston Appliance” to distalize molars and develop space for tooth alignment and profile reduction in noncompliant patients.

In 1999, Dr. Greenfield authored the first textbook on nonextraction treatment entitled, “Nonextraction Orthodontics; the History, Philosophy and Clinical Application.” The textbook was published in three different languages.   A more extensive and updated 2nd edition will be available in 2009.   It will contain nearly 1100 pages and 7,000 images.

In addition to serving as a referee for the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Dr. Greenfield is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists and the South Florida Academy of Orthodontists.

Dr. Greenfield is the originator of five scientific patents. He has successfully treated more than 10,000 nonextraction patients in a 30-year career. His “Coordinated Arch Development®” technique and philosophy creates radiant smiles and greatly enhances long term functional, esthetic, and orthodontic stability.

 

 

Dr. Mladen Kuftinec

 

Dr Mladen Kuftinec is currently retired from practicing orthodontics but still enjoys speaking and lecturing. He worked in private practice for over 35 years and is a retired Professor and Director of Orthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry. Over the years, Dr. Kuftinec also held academic positions at University of Louisville, Medical College of Virginia, MIT and Harvard-Forsyth.  Dr Kuftinec has over 200 scientific contributions, including book chapters, original research papers, case presentations, reviews, abstract and clinical manuals and is Editor of the only book published on the topic of Interactive Self-ligation. In his spare time he enjoys learning about advances in clinical technology and classical music.

Dr. Luis Nelson Nunez

Dr. Carlos Nurko

 

Dr. Nurko is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico, obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 1992. He completed a pediatric dentistry residency, and earned a Master of Science degree in Dentistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1996. He was faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1996-2001, and then received his certificate in orthodontics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004.  Currently he maintains an Orthodontic private practice in Frisco and Plano, Texas

Dr. Nurko is a published author. His articles have been featured in several peer reviewed journals. In addition, he lectures at different study groups, dental societies and elementary schools.

Dr. Nurko’s special interests include: 3-D imaging, self-ligating bracket systems, new orthodontic technologies, infant oral heath, orthodontic treatment for growing patients and oral heath and dental services for minority children.

Dr. Nurko enjoys spending time with his family, he currently coaches his sons soccer teams. He believes in keeping his mind and body fit!. He enjoys running, soccer, photography, dancing, Latin music, and contemporary art.

Dr. Gary Opin

 

 Dr. Gary Opin received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University; his D.M.D. degree from Tufts University Magna Cum Laude; and his Certificate in Orthodontics and M.D.Sc. degree from the University of Connecticut. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, an Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale New Haven Hospital, Department of Dentistry and Department of Plastic Surgery, and a member of the Cranio-Facial team. He and his father together maintain a private practice in Milford, CT.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Ron Roncone

 

After receiving his undergraduate degree from Marquette University, Dr. Roncone pursued graduate study in physiology and neuroanatomy at the Marquette School of Medicine while simultaneously earning his dental degree from the same university. His CV includes postdoctoral certificates from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Forsyth Dental CenterDr. Roncone’s practice in San Diego County, California, specializes in adult treatment (aesthetics, surgical and TMD) as well as “early” treatment for children. He is a respected and frequent lecturer, having taught more than 500 seminars around the globe. His impressive list of technical innovations include long (8-12 week) intervals between patient appointments, which he introduced in 1989 through the use of titanium wires, and the development of a unique prescription for bands and brackets. He is widely known in the orthodontic community as the “Guru of Marketing”. Dr. Roncone is President and CEO of Roncone Orthodontics International ™. ROI offers practice management courses as well as in-office consulting and marketing services.

 

 

 

Dr. Antonino Secchi

 

 Dr. Secchi is Assistant Professor of Orthodontics-Clinician Educator and Clinical Director of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, USA and Visiting Professor at the University of Los Andes, Chile. Dr. Secchi received his DDS from the University of Valparaiso, Chile; a Certificate in Advanced Occlusion from the University of Chile; and his DMD, Certificate in Orthodontics, and a Master of Science in Oral Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Secchi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. At the University of Pennsylvania, he has developed and implemented courses on Orthodontic Treatment Mechanics, Straight Wire Appliance Systems and Functional Occlusion in Orthodontics for postdoctoral orthodontic residents. He also provides didactic and clinical instruction for the predoctoral students and the Division of Graduate Dental Education.

Dr. Secchi's research interests include, primarily, the relationship between self-ligating appliances, friction and treatment mechanics as well as orthodontics and functional occlusion. He has published in various dental and orthodontic peer review journals. He received the 2005 David C. Hamilton Orthodontic Research Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Orthodontists (PAO), a 2006 Orthodontic Faculty Development Fellowship Award from the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (AAOF) and the 2007 Subtelny, Baker, Eastman Teaching Fellowship Award from the AAOF. His passion for clinical orthodontic and commitment to education have made him a solicited lecturer at a National and International level.
